Stopped in today, and noticed that they are selling $8 smoothies and frozen coffee drinks!!! We walked out and went down to Horizon Books, a block away.

Espresso Bay needs to step up their game if they want to stay in business. The only decent thing I've had here is hot tea, which is pretty hard to mess up given it involves nothing they actually MAKE. The chai I tried was overly sweet and over priced. And a cupcake I got from the case was hands down the worst "cupcake" I've ever had - it made box cupcakes from Meijer look gourmet. It's possible this baked "good" came from somewhere else, but still, they served it and charged me $4 for it. Ugh. Atmosphere is so-so IMHO - couches and fire place are nice, but WTF is up with the lighting? It's either super dark or super bright, and the florescent lights need to be taken out back and burned. Ugly lighting doesn't inspire me (or many others) to hang out...

I couldn't agree more with you guys. I went there and the ordered Mocha w/ almond. The taste was just ok to me. It's pretty pricey by the way. The store is well organized and staff is friendly.....just need higher graded or better quality coffee beans I guess. I gonna try other kind of drinks next time!

An eggnog latte. A roaring fireplace. (Ok, flickering, but still warm) Christmas Eve. Snow flittering about. Downtown Traverse City. Comfy couches. Glad to know there are a variety of coffee shops in TC now...this one seemed exceedingly appropriate for the day. A large selection of holiday concoctions (eggnog, snowflake, etc)... Nearly the perfect cup of coffee...

Cappuccino sucks. Very bitter tasting espresso. The location and decor is great. It looks like a great coffee shop but its not. Also, the service was terrible. Older barista wbo was not friendly, didn't listen to my order, and seemed grumpy.

The only reason this place gets a star is for the good location and atmosphere it has- fireplace, couches, big windows etc. Each and every time I have given this place a "chance" it has let me down severely. I don't know what it is- young barista's who don't really care if they make crappy drinks, the low-quality ingredients, or the high prices. I was a Barista for two years and was taught under strict rules how to make QUALITY drinks. Espresso Bay does not compare. I got a latte or a chai whenever I went here----each time there was NO foam (which is the best part) and it was always way too hot (over 140 is not ok) or luke warm. Which leads me to believe they don't teach their staff how to properly serve customers. Some of which may be highly experienced Barista's. I won't be spending anymore money here- which is too bad since it's such a short walk from my office.

I had multiple really positive experience here and can give a detailed reasoning for my enjoyable experience. Great for vacationers, locals, and people on the go. I left the same / similar feed back on their other location, because i have had this experience at each place. Upon entering, I noticed the atmosphere was clean, professional, and using colors that were relaxing to me. I felt very soothed and able to enjoy the afternoon (reading and working online). There were enough power outlets, tables, and couches to supply customers with computers. They also had a great WIFI signal, which I really appreciate. The coffees I tried were quite good, and I have tried several types at both of their primary locations. My personal recommendation would be to try the pour-overs. The lattes were good, but (like most American coffee shops), are a bit sweet for my palette. However, I asked for 1/2 the syrup in my latte and it was really well done! I am not sure where they get their beans from, but I was quite impressed with them. Good flavor & roasting methods were used on their beans. Employees were knowledgable about the process and explained it really well. The pastries I tried were made in house, by an employee, but I think some of them were mass produced. The newer smoothies they serve (recently) are much more natural and fresh than the older variety (which was artificial flavoring). I am much more impressed with the new ones. The staff I interacted with on my visits were always friendly, polite, and engaged in healthy communications. On one occasion, they mixed up my order, but gave me a free pastry with my new (and perfected) drink order. I felt very cared for and happy with that experience. Overall, I am very pleased with my visits at both locations and will definitely be returning to this venue during my travels. I was surprised at a few of the negative ratings posted here, but upon reading them, I think they are more opinion based (pro / anti LGBT agenda) and not actually describing a customer experience. Those are the reviews that should be banned from Yelp, but that's another type of review. In conclusion, I would absolutely recommend this coffee shop, the poor overs, and the atmosphere. Well done.

Nothing too special. Check in when you are with a friend. Buy a large drink and get one free or something. I like how they have couches and bathrooms. =D
